Volunteers work to abstract and photograph the tombstones of Barron County. About half the cemeteries in the county are completed and projects for this year will be determined. If weather does not permit, the alternative plans for the evening involve a master-blaster indexing night at the Research Room, using personal laptops etc. Volunteers welcomed.

  • Exciting, new lectures specially made for this conference from internationally renowned author and genealogist Tony Burroughs: Black Roots, the Nature of Genealogy, and Pullman Porters: Researching Railroad Records.
  • Walter McDonald will speak about Joshua Glover, runaway slave, as well as give some insight into his new research on the Underground Railroad of Wisconsin.
  • Crystal Moten of University of Wisconsin, Madison, provides a look into the lives of black women through the lens of historical records.
  • Jim Hansen, FASG, will dive into African American newspapers and periodicals.
  • Lori Bessler, Reference Librarian, will demonstrate Ancestry and FamilySearch.
